How to Enable Two-Factor Authentication for cPanel?

Ensuring the security of your cPanel account is crucial for protecting your website and its associated data. One of the most effective ways to enhance security is by enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).

2FA adds a layer of protection by requiring a second verification form beyond just your password.

This guide will walk you through the step-by-step process of enabling 2FA for your cPanel account, ensuring your online presence is safeguarded against unauthorized access. Follow these simple instructions to bolster your cPanel security with Two-Factor Authentication:

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

Provide your designated username and password to log in.

Step 2: Navigate to the Security Section

Once logged in, scroll down to the "Security" section and click on "Two-Factor Authentication."

Step 3: Start Two-Factor Authentication Setup

Click on "Set Up Two-Factor Authentication" to begin the configuration process.

Step 4: Scan the QR Code

Scan the displayed QR code with a two-factor authentication app on your smartphone. If you don't have a QR code reader, manually configure the app using the provided account name and key.

Step 5: Install Authenticator Extension (if needed)

If you don't have a two-factor authentication app on your phone, you can use an authenticator extension for your browser. Go to the Chrome Web Store and add the "Authenticator" extension.

Step 6: Open Authenticator Extension

Click on the "Authenticator" extension icon in your browser to open it.

Step 7: Add Account in Authenticator Extension

Click on the pencil icon to add a new account.

Step 8: Copy Security Code

After scanning the QR code or adding the account manually, the authenticator app will generate a security code.

Step 9: Enter Security Code

Enter this code in the cPanel interface and click "Configure Two-Factor Authentication."

Step 10: Success Message

You will see a success message indicating that two-factor authentication is now configured for your account.

Step 11: Verify Configuration

You can verify that two-factor authentication is configured by seeing the confirmation message. You can also reconfigure or remove two-factor authentication from this screen.
