Migrating From cPanel To Plesk
This article explains the process of migrating an account from a cPanel hosted server to a Plesk hosted server. Please note this article assumes that you already have an accountrunning on the cPanel hosted server you are migrating from , a Plesk server that you are migrating to and at least 2 IP addresses. Lastly please make sure that your Plesk server has the migration tool already installed, otherwise you will not be able to migrate the hosting account.
- To begin the migration you will need to log into the Plesk server as the migration will occur here. Once you have logged in you will need to access the Migration manager tool. This can be found at Home > Help & Support > Migration Manager.
- In the Migration Manager click on "Start New Migration" to start a new migration attempt.
- To start the process you will need to provide the hostname or IP address of the cPanel server where the account exists, the root user login and the password. You also can choose to migrate all the accounts if more than one exist or you can manually select the accounts, if do this there will be an option on the next step to accomplish this. If you are on a slower connection, do not enable file compression for the transfer.
- If you choose to manually select your accounts, here you will need to select the account or accounts. You also can choose to migrate the entire account, only the data or all data and email. Once you have made your selection, click next.
- You will need to have a free IP address available if you are running your domains on the Plesk server in shared IP address mode. Otherwise you will need 1 free IP address for every domain you are transferring over. If you do have free IP address, the Plesk migration tool will select a free IP address for you. If you have multiple free IP addresses, you can choose a different IP from the drop down field. If you don't have any free IP addresses available, you will need to create a IP managing file. This will enabled Plesk to direct the content to an existing IP address, however this is not recommended and if you need an additional IP address, please content our Cloud/VPS/Dedicated support department. Click next to continue.
- The last step prior to completing the migration is setting up the rules for the migration to follow, or otherwise known as conflict rules. Here you will let Plesk know if it is ok to bypass any quotas that it may have in place for the migration. Choose your options and click next.
- You will now get a message that the migration as started.
- Depending on the size of the account you are migrating, it may take some time. You can either click on the refresh button on the migration screen of check back in several minutes. Once the migration is completed the migration tool will update you.
